Its a bright sunny Saturday noon. And guess what I am doing??I am in office :( Well, last week there was a Karnataka bandh. In lieu of that, we are working today. Ways to keep billing days intact and keep the money flowing! This reminded me of school days. I did my schooling in a convent school for girls. Each of us were given a handbook at the beginning of a school year. The first few pages were general info like phone numbers, prayer wordings, et al. Rest were blank. If there is a message that the teachers/school needs to pass on to the parents, they come to each classroom and write the message on the blackboard. We are supposed to copy it on to the handbook and show it to our parents. Kerala being a state of regular strike, bandh and hartals, the most common message used to be "Tomorrow is a holiday. Saturday will be a working day with 's timetable".I did not want to go to school one day. Reason: One girl was bullying me. She scared me so much that I was petrified at the thought of seeing her again. But it was a matter of life or death for me at that time. So what did the evil genius in me do??? I wrote the holiday message in my handbook.... Such a lousy liar, I am...What happens when my parents see other kids go to school tomorrow? What will I do on Saturday when they drop me off at school and there is no one else there?Coming to think of it... even now, I am a pretty lousy liar! And I am still easily bulliable. The only difference is that I am not the puny little girl any more. I have enough (more than enough, infact) girth and can fake a straight face.PS: As much as I try to forget this unfortunate incident, each time I have a working weekend, my parents remind me of this. They just totally enjoy pulling my leg!! So mean, aren't they??
Disclaimer: I am a sworn movie addict. I am more obsessed with movies than with movie stars... So my opinions could be biased!I've been down with fever the last few days... sitting at home, all I could do was flip channels. I saw Oprah asking Mathew McConaughey about any language troubles he had with Penelope Cruz. Moving on, Tyra Banks was getting tips from Iman (Mrs David Bowie) on the right shades of makeup. And ofcourse, there was our very own Simi Garewal in conversation with the Bachchan family and Big B's near-death experience in the sets of Coolie. The regualar E! shows were talking about whether Suri looks more like Tom Cruise or Katie Holmes; whether Beyonce looks good thinner or curvier and the sorts. After hours and hours of channel surfing, I ended up in Sony PIX - a new addition to the Sony Channel lineup. And I discovered 'Inside the Actors Studio'. Its a one hour show where the host James Lipton interviews some celebrity. All I can say is it puts all other chat shows (with celebrities) to shame!! He started off from the childhood and talking about their up-bringing and concentrating on how that affected their acting. Then he went on to ask about how they got into acting and if they had any struggles and the effort that went behind movies and the sort... The most surprising aspect - NO GOSSIP!!! I saw 4 episodes till now - Sissy Spacek, Richard Gere, Angelina Jolie, and Will Smith. And the most hilarious part of the show are the 10 questions he asks everybody in the end... 1. What is your favorite word?2. What is your least favorite word?3. What turns you on creatively, spiritually or emotionally?4. What turns you off?5. What is your favorite curse word?6. What sound or noise do you love?7. What sound or noise do you hate?8. What profession other than your own would you like to attempt?9. What profession would you not like to do?10. If Heaven exists, what would you like to hear God say when you arrive at the Pearly Gates?Any celebrity (or wanna-be) out there who wants to take a shot at these questions???
